The Chromat Spring/Summer 2012 swim collection was inspired by Roman Catholic cathedrals, devout hooded women and pagan rituals. A gorgeous ornate cathedral in which a group of nuns are ensconced motivated the complex swimwear treatment. The collection expresses the symbolic power of religious iconography like crosses and pentagrams into a elaborate ornamental structure for the body, like the facade of the cathedral. The pieces attempt to recreate a bathing suit version of the nun’s habit, or what she might be wearing underneath her dark robes.
